DIY HAND-PAINTED STAIR Runner
IT'S TIME TO STEP UP YOUR STAIRS!
This unique paint technique reveals how you can seriously step up your stairway with the use of pattern + colour. Using the BEHR Paint hue Voyage PPU13-07, I create a free-hand pattern that mimics the look of a rug runner down the stairway. This trendy painted pattern will create fun visual interest in any area of your home. Beyond that, it might just make you stop and "stair" a little longer!
PROJECT LENGTH: 4-5 HRS
PAINT SHEEN: SEMI-GLOSS
DECOR ITEMS USED:
STEP 1:
Wipe down the stairs, removing any dust, dirt and debris.
STEP 2:
Depending on your stair width, use a ruler to determine the width of your pattern and mark lightly with a pencil. For this project, I measured 3” inward.
CON’T
I’m using painters tape in this photo to provide a visual guide, but no need to waste the tape if you tackle this project at home!
STEP 3:
On a scrap piece of paper, use different brush sizes and patterns to determine the best look to translate on your design. Nailing down the pattern ahead of time will help reduce any errors on the actual stairs.
STEP 4:
Starting at the top of your stairway, begin painting your pattern! Use a ruler or straight edge to help guide your eye and ensure you create a straight pattern across. If you veer off your path, don't worry! This is a free-hand look, a little wibble-wobble looks totally fine to the eye once the entire pattern is complete. Alternative straight guides are painters tape or a piece of string taped down on each side.
Continue to work your way down the stairs!
STEP 5:
Who said stairs couldn’t have accessories too? Add a cute basket and a plant to bring the stairwell to life!
VOILA! Enjoy your new stairway that’s completely elevated with a trendy new look!

DIY PAINTED WINDOW TRIM
ELEVATE YOUR LIVING SPACE WITH A MINIMAL (YET) COLOURFUL PUNCH!
This second paint project reveals how colour can elevate the coziness of an entire room, even if it’s just done in a minimal + unconventional way! Once again, using the BEHR Paint hue Voyage PPU13-07, I create visual impact by painting the trim around the windows, which draws the eye in and adds cozy personality! Minimal effort that packs a big colourful punch!
PROJECT LENGTH: 2 HRS
PAINT SHEEN: SEMI-GLOSS
Step 1:
Remove any pre-existing hardware and wipe down the window frames, removing any dust, dirt and debris.
Step 2:
Protect your floor with a drop sheet and apply painters tape around the perimeter of your window frame and any inside elements you don’t want painted.
Step 3:
Apply paint to the window frame.
Step 4:
Let dry and remove painters tape
Step 5:
Accessorize around the space to elevate the colour using art, interesting lighting and plant life!
