IKEA Hacks: Dream Furniture on a Budget
I just love IKEA, don’t you? I love the low price point and the blank slate their plain and simple designs offer to a DIYer like me. I’ve rounded up a few of my very favourite IKEA hacks that I think you might like too. Whether you want to DIY a doggie food station, a $6000 apothecary cabinet dupe or anything in between, there’s something here for you!
IKEA TARVA hack: Lulu and Georgia Samantha Dresser Dupe
In this episode, I take on the challenge of duping the exquisite Samantha dresser by Lulu and Georgia with an IKEA TARVA dresser hack! Watch me use DIY legs, a unique paint technique, and gorgeous new hardware to make this plain old IKEA dresser into a gorgeous piece of furniture that is almost identical to the expensive designer version, for less than ¼ the cost!
DIY MCM Sideboard IKEA Hack
In this DIY diary, I build my friend Jes the IKEA hack version of her favourite mid-century modern sideboard. I use three IKEA IVAR cabinets to turn an awkward nook in her apartment into a gorgeous and functional desk/storage space. This build was super simple and transformed the space dramatically for a fraction of the cost of her inspiration piece.
Victorian Gothic IKEA Bookshelf Hack
In this video, I re-hack the IKEA hacked bookshelves I created for my office two years before when I used an IKEA BILLY bookcase hack to create custom shelving with gorgeous Moroccan arches. My style has changed to Dark Academia, so it was time for a Gothic Victorian makeover! Come see how I used the blackest green paint I could find and textured trim and moulding pieces to create the perfect effect.
$6000 Apothecary Cabinet for $600
My friend Jes reached out looking for a custom, budget-friendly alternative to an expensive apothecary cabinet she saw online. I used an IKEA TARVA dresser hack to create the same thing from two dressers for ONE TENTH the cost! I used a front drawer faux-apothecary hack, new brass pulls and name holders, plus a beautiful warm wood stain to complete the look. It looks perfect in Jes’ space and I think I really nailed it!
DIY Apothecary Cabinet from IKEA ALEX Drawer Units
In this episode, I take you through my IKEA ALEX drawer unit hack for a gorgeous apothecary cabinet makeover. I used two ALEX drawer cabinets, some plywood and edgebanding, paint, and antique brass hardware to completely transform my office storage. I think the change is absolutely stunning!
Anthropologie Jimena Occasional Chair Dupe with IKEA STRANDMON Hack + Cricut!
In this episode of “Can I Make This Cheaper?” I accept Stacey M’s challenge to dupe the unique and gorgeous Jimena Occasional Chair worth approximately $700. I used a Facebook MarketPlace STRANDMON chair for this IKEA hack, along with my Cricut Maker, sheets of felt, fabric glue, and basic sewing skills. My version cost around $200 and I think it’s pretty darn good!
PAX Wardrobe Flip
Welcome to one of my absolute favourite IKEA hacks ever! I turned a plain IKEA PAX wardrobe into a gorgeous custom piece of furniture just by replacing the doors with my own design. This IKEA PAX hack involved creating new plywood doors with arch details and gorgeous DIY hardware, all stained a beautiful deep chocolate brown. This was such an easy DIY with such a big impact on my space!
Lego-Themed IKEA KALLAX Hack
It’s time for another Love It or Thrift It! In this episode, I was challenged to hack an IKEA KALLAX shelf being used as a Lego display area into something modern, customized, and elegant, while still Lego-themed. I made new doors and created a custom piece using an elegant dark walnut stain, some wood rounds, and plywood. I love the way this turned out!
Tabitha Credenza Dupe Using IKEA IVAR Cabinet Hack
In this episode of “Can I Make This Cheaper?” I’m tackling a dupe of the Urban Outfitters Tabitha Credenza using an IKEA IVAR cabinet hack! I used two of these cabinets plus some MDF and my own stain preferences to create a stunning me-inspired version of this funky furniture piece. Which one will you like better, the dupe or the original? Watch the video to find out!
How to Paint IKEA Furniture
There aren’t many IKEA hacks that don’t involve paint! Painting IKEA furniture (the dreaded laminate) can be really easy if you follow these simple steps! Get all my tips and tricks for an IKEA furniture paint job that lasts.
Arched IVAR Cabinet IKEA Hack!
When I wanted to update my office and put a little more ME in the space, I made the mistake of browsing the internet for furniture ideas. I found a cabinet with arched details that I was in LOVE with but that cost $2000. Instead of feeling sad, I decided to make my own using an IKEA IVAR cabinet, some cane webbing, and some paint. If you have a jig saw, you too can have beautiful arched cabinet doors! Find out how.
DIY Dog Eating Station Using a Hacked IKEA Cabinet
The eating station I built for Kenobi was turning out to be a little too short and not up to the challenge of how gross dogs can be. So, I decided to build a new one! I hacked an IKEA SMASTAD cabinet and added MDF and a butcher block counter to make it durable and fancy at the same time. Kenobi’s bowls are set right into the countertop behind a gorgeous DIY gallery rail, and I could not be more happy with how it turned out!
IKEA MOPPE Drawers Hack
I hacked these IKEA MOPPE drawers to fit in perfectly with my new greenhouse vibe. A greenhouse needs storage for all the little bits and pieces that accumulate when gardening, and I wanted to DIY something to go with my herbology-meets-Narnia-meets-Danie theme (lol). I knew when I saw this mini organizer from IKEA that it was perfect for what I needed! Let me share how I hacked these drawers and give you more ideas for how you could customize them differently, just for you!
And there you have it! A collection of IKEA hack projects for every level of DIY. Which one are you going to try first? Let me know in the comments or tag me with your before and after pics @diydanie!
